There are many objects that can be used as candle making jars and candle making containers. Many times you can use jars that you have lying around the house or purchase some cheap at a second hand store. Make sure that the jar is heat resistant and non-flammable. It also should be fairly strong so if you should drop your candle it won’t break.
Candle making jars are mainly used for candles as there is less of a chance you will burn yourself as the hot wax is contained in a container. You don’t have to worry about dripping wax as they hold all the wax in one place and your skin does not come into contact with the wax.
Tempered glass is the best kind of material for candle making jars. This glass is heat resistant and looks great. Generally jars that are made of tempered glass include canning jars as these are made to withstand high heats when you make jams, jellies and can other foods. They can withstand temperatures that equate to boiling water.
For a very fancy type of jar you can use wine glasses. I recommend using gel candles. Think how pretty a set of champagne glasses look when the gel has plenty of air bubbles and sparkles in it, just like fizz a fizzing glass of champagne. Make sure the wine glass will not break at high temperatures. You may need to warm up the glass before you pour the candle so it will not break.
You also can go crazy with the shape of your jar if you want to. There is nothing saying that you have to stay with the traditional jar shape. Jars come in all different shapes and sizes and you can really add some variety to your candles by choosing different shaped jars as well as varying sizes.
There are a few steps you will need to take to prepare your jars for candle making. The jar needs to be clean and dry. Make sure you remove and labels or stickers before you use it for candle making. To make sure you know how much wax to melt, pour water in to the desired level and then measure how many ounces this is. That is the amount of wax you will need to melt to fill the jar.
You will need to attach the wick to the bottom of the jar; this can be done using a bit of hot glue. Make sure the wick is about 6 inches taller than the jar and wrap the end around a pencil and then put this on the top of the jar. This will hold the wick in place. Now your candle jar is ready.
You can also have a lot of fun decorating your candle making jars. Glitter glue can be used for stenciled are. You can decorate the jar with glue and some beads. You can also use glass etching fluid to paint or stencil in a beautiful design or picture.
